Meet the Subarus of iWire
iWire is a company made up of Subaru enthusiasts, and we like to play with cars just as much as our customers do. Here's a look at the project cars, daily drivers, and driveway ornaments that the iWire crew wrenches on.
iWire's owner, Brian Keene, has a 1998 Subaru Impreza RS that has been under the knife for the better part of 2 years. In its previous iteration (shown below) the car had a full STI swap. Brian decided that the only way forward was to add more cylinders and to tackle CANBUS. Over the last 2 years it has been stripped to a shell, the engine bay has been resprayed with a fresh coat of Rally Blue Pearl, and the 3.6 liter flat 6 from a Tribeca has been shoehorned under the hood which will make this lightweight GM6 a real monster.
Jeff Geukens's 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX, considered by many to be the "ugly duckling" of WRX designs, is beautiful to drive. Jeff swapped the tiny factory turbo for a larger VF52 unit, replaced the 5-speed transmission with a 6-speed from a 2004 STI, and installed an iWire plug and play DCCDpro Spiider kit. Tuned to around 280hp at the wheels and sitting on Feal coilover suspension, this car proves that even the unloved "narrow-body" WRX is a platform with incredible potential.
My own 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX is proof that even in near-stock form, the 15 year old GD WRX is still a great performance platform. STI springs paired with slightly stiffer dampers and a freer-flowing exhaust liven up the driving characteristics without sacrificing reliability or comfort, and Rally Armor mudflaps and a Rally Innovations light bar complete the look.
These cars are just the tip of the iceberg. This year I bought a 1999 Impreza Outback Sport, which is awaiting a JDM EJ205 swap with an iWire harness merge and an iWire AVCS wiring kit. The engine is almost ready to go in, so stay tuned! I'll be providing updates and insights on how to swap a turbocharged engine into a GC/GM/GF Impreza as I finish the build.
I also may or may not own a 1994 Legacy Touring Wagon and a 1987 GL Wagon. Oops.
We know our customers have built some amazing vehicles over the years! If you'd like us to feature your car on the iWire blog, send us an email with pictures and a description and maybe you'll see your car on the site!
